Rare JD 6030 tractor sells for $59,500 at auction
The rare John Deere 6030 tractor featured here earlier this month brought $59,500 at the William "Bill" Malir Estate auction April 16 near Wilson, KS.
The tractor, one of only 45 of the models ever made and delivered new in 1973, was sitting at $26,500 in Internet pre-bidding before the item came up to sell shortly after noon. The $32,000 gap between Internet pre-bidding and the final selling price was made up in short order by two bidders on site and two more bidders online, according to Chris Froetschner of Carr Auction Company or Larned, Kan.
One of the online bidders and another on-site from Illinois squared off over the final 10-15 thousand dollars before the Illinois bidder won the tractor. Mr. Froetschner said he expected the tractor to sell for $40,000 to $45,000.
"We're tooting our horn a little bit," Mr. Froetschner said. "It was fun doing it."
The auction featured two other rare items - a 1930 Model A that brought $8,300 despite being in serious disrepair, and a 1948 Harley panhead "barn find" that brought $33,750. Here is a video from the auction.
