The day the crying died
A year later, it's still hard. Lots and lots and lots of auctions came to a standstill. No one knew what to do - I got more calls than the Mayberry switchboard. Everyone selling live had to take their lots online - and now.
St. Patrick's Day 2020 - or thereabouts - was a watershed moment for the auction industry. It was a difficult situation here, but I can hardly imagine what it must have been like in the field. Some people had to sell, some could wait, some had no idea - and neither did their confidant - the auctioneer.
The upshot of the coronavirus pandemic is that many auction companies have retooled or reinvented themselves in a hurry, and it is encouraging from this seat to see how many individuals and companies have done just that.
Recent postings here indicate auctions are returning. We hope that is the case, because we love humans and live interaction.
